Wie Mozilla schon h\u00e4ufig erw\u00e4hnt hat, ist Firefox OS nicht f\u00fcr High-End Handys gedacht. Das Ziel ist es, mit Firefox OS<\/a> einen Markt mit g\u00fcnstigen internettauglichen Mobiltelefonen zu schaffen. Die Zielgruppe von Firefox OS stimmt mit der von Snaptu <\/a>\u00fcberein. Firefox OS versucht dabei die L\u00fccke zwischen Smart- und Featurephone auf dem Preisniveau anzupacken, anstatt wie Snaptu, mit der Erweiterung bestehender Systeme.<\/p>\n

Was ist<\/del> war Snaptu?<\/h2>\n

Snaptu war eine Plattform, welche Symbian basierten Feature Phones erlaubte ein schnelles Interneterlebnis zu haben. Dazumals basierte jedes normale Handy auf Symbian. Das Internet machte mit Snaptu mehr Spass, da es sowas wie Apps hatte. Apps statt Webseiten f\u00fcr Twitter, Facebook und andere Dienste, denn mobile Webseiten sind auf kleinen Bildschirmen einfach nicht brauchbar. Snaptu war \u00fcbrigens auf Touchscreen und nicht Touchscreen Handys ausgelegt. Es dann kam langsam Android auf und Snaptu wurde von Facebook gekauft und heisst heute Facebook for every Phone<\/a>. Snaptu und auch Facebook for every Phone zeigen, dass es einen Nachfrage nach einer praktischen Internetplattform f\u00fcr wenig Geld gibt. Die Facebookseite von Facebook for every Phone hat \u00fcber 200 Millionen Likes. Das sind wohl etwas unter 20% aller Facebook User.<\/p>\n

Was macht es aus, dass das Internet auf einem kleine Bildschirm Spass macht? Man muss das Gef\u00fchl haben, sie sei f\u00fcr das Ger\u00e4t optimiert. Firefox OS tut das sehr geschickt. Auch wenn jede App im Grunde genommen “nur” eine Webseite ist. Man tippt auf ein separates Icon, so etwas wie ein Splash-Screen erscheint – das kann keine Webseite sein. denn schlussendlich ist eine App in der Regel nicht viel schneller – jedenfalls, wenn die Webseite gut aufgebaut ist. ein schlechtes Beispiel war Facebook mit der HTML5 App, die einfach nur langsam war. Das Zauberwort ist Caching. Eine App speichert statische Ressourcen fix auf dem Endger\u00e4t, so dass diese nicht jedes mal neue geladen werden m\u00fcssen. Im Idealfall jedenfalls. Den Caching ist etwas komplexes, was auch der Grund ist, weshalb es die meisten App nicht beherrschen. “Native” Android oder iOS Apps cachen leider sehr wenig. Sie bringen daf\u00fcr schon ein paar statische Ressourcen mit sich. Da ist es eigentlich ganz gut, wenn sich der Entwickler nicht ums Caching k\u00fcmmern muss. Der Browser kann das eh am besten, dessen Caching ist auch schon alt und deshalb gut optimiert.<\/p>\n

Firefox OS kann gut angepasst werden<\/h2>\n

Einer der Vorteile an einem Open Source Betriebssystem wie Android – oder eben auch Firefox OS ist, dass die Mobilfunkanbieter oder die Hersteller das Betriebssystem anpassen k\u00f6nnen. Wobei das nicht immer gut ist. Stichworte daf\u00fcr sind TouchWiz und Sense. F\u00fcr Firefox OS gibt es bereits eine Deutsche Firma, welche zugeschnittene Firefox OS Versionen anbietet. Und das bedeutet mehr als nur ein angepasstes Hintergrundbild (das geht ja sogar mit WP), sondern eigene Apps f\u00fcr Dienste oder ein eigener Marketplace. Mehr zum net-m OS<\/a>, so heisst dieses Betriebssystem gibt’s beim S\u00f6ren Hentzschel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Und was hat das alles mit Symbian zu tun?<\/h2>\n

Der Grund f\u00fcr die grosse Verbreitung von Symbian war gerade diese grosse Anpassbarkeit f\u00fcr den Hersteller oder den Verk\u00e4ufer. Sony Ericsson und Samsung hatten ihre komplett eigenen Oberfl\u00e4chen f\u00fcr Symbian. Ja, Android hat das auch, aber billig Handy mit Android machen keinen Spass – sie sind zu langsam. Firefox OS ist aber darauf ausgelegt auf schwacher Hardware zu laufen und will gerade diese L\u00fccke im Markt schliessen.<\/p>\n
